Top juniors chase Access All Jamaica titles
Several of Jamaica's top junior players are among the 126 who have entered the Access All Jamaica Junior Tennis Tournament, which starts at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre on Piccadilly Avenue this morning at 9. The Tennis Jamaica tournament will end on Sunday.
Access Financial Services are the new sponsors of the tournament, which will see competition for boys and girls in the 18 and Under, 16 and Under, 14 and Under, 12 and Under and 10 and Under age groups. Associate sponsors are Hi-Lyte and KingAlarm.
Among the top juniors who have entered are the defending boys and girls champions, Kyle Martin and Shaeda Nickle, respectively. Other top entries in the various age groups for boys are Andrew Bicknell, Daniel Hill, Cliff Dwyer, John Azar Jr, Damani Cain and John Chin. Among the girls, entries have been received from Michaela Stephens, Leah Smyle, Sheann Kameka, Selena Blythe, Alex Marzouca, Stradiann Barrett, Jenna Harrison and Emma Dibbs.
The tournament will be the first on the recently resurfaced and refurbished courts at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre, which has a brand new look, with the courts now painted blue. The entire court area has been refurbished, and Tennis Jamaica President John Bailey told The Gleaner yesterday that he was grateful to the International Tennis Federation and the Sports Development Foundation for their assistance with the funding of the project.
He also stated that he was happy that the first event to take place on the new courts will be one of Tennis Jamaica's premier junior tournaments, the Junior All Jamaica, as the emphasis at this time is on growing junior tennis.
