Holmes, Russell ready for showdown
Kemahl 'Hitman' Russell and Richard 'Frog' Holmes, the two finalists in the Wray & Nephew Contender Series for 2015, are both looking forward to winning the $2,000,000 cash prize which will be awarded to the winner of the competition at the end of the final round on Saturday, July 11, at the National Indoor Sports Centre in St Andrew.
Russell and Holmes both
defeated pre-tournament favourites
this season in the semi-final rounds, which were held at the Chinese Benevolent Association in
St Andrew on June 24 and July 1, respectively.
"I am excited. It's been a wonderful experience so far and I look forward to winning the final match," said Russell, immediately after defeating Devon 'Concrete' Moncriffe on June 24 in the first semi-final.
Holmes, who defeated one of this season's most favoured boxers, Tsetsi 'Lights Out' Davis, after their match was pushed back two weeks because of an injury Davis received, said he was happy that he defeated Davis and fulfilled his promise to his coach, mentors and fans that he would make it into the final round of the season.
"I am ready, too, for the final match now. I feel good about defeating Tsetsi. The match being pushed two weeks ahead helped me to prepare both mentally and physically. Now, I am looking forward to winning at the finals."
The finale of the fifth season of the Wray & Nephew Contender Series will also feature the undercard grudge match between 2014 Contender Sakima Mullings and Barbados' John Trotman.
The after party will feature performances by Busy Signal, Cham and Sizzla.
The final match will be streamed live on Television Jamaica (TVJ), starting at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 11.
