Track and field analyst Hubert Lawrence says he is not surprised by the decision of a number of Jamaica's athletes to switch their allegiance to other countries.

Former Jamaica College sprinter Winston Barnes has become the latest Jamaican athlete to switch his allegiance.

He is to begin representing Turkey and will now be known as Emre Zafer Barnes.

He has joined sprinter Jacques Harvey who made the switch to Turkey last year.

Lawrence says lack of financial support locally is one of the main reasons these athletes decide to move overseas.

Lawrence says these countries will offer better financial assistance to these athletes.

Last week, Jamaica’s Olympic Games silver medallist Shericka Williams, along with Andrew Fisher and Kemarley Brown, all requested a switch of allegiance to the oil-rich state of Bahrain.
