In just the second round of this season's Barclays Premier League, a potentially defining clash takes place at the Etihad where the last two champions meet on Sunday.

Chelsea, the reigning champions who finished a clear eight points ahead of second-placed City last season, started with a surprise 2-2 draw at home to Swansea, six days after losing the Community Shield to another close rival, Arsenal.

Both meetings last season ended in 1-1 draws; the game at City saw the home side reduced to 10 men after Pablo Zabaleta was sent off.

But Chelsea should be confident, given their impressive Premier League record at City. In 18 visits in the competition, Chelsea have an impressive 11 wins and two draws and only five defeats, though they have won just once in their last six trips to the Etihad.

If Chelsea should fail to win it will be the first time that they have not won in their opening two games since the 1998-99 season when they lost at Coventry and drew at home to Newcastle.
