Annsert Whyte and Leford Green are the only Jamaicans to progress to the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles.

The third Jamaican, Roxroy Cato stopped the clock at 49.47 but failed to advance after finishing sixth in his heat.

Whyte, the national champion, finished fourth in his heat with a time of 49.10 to book his spot in the semi-finals set for 5:40 a.m. tomorrow.

"I need to work on my backstretch but I'm happy to make it to the semis and I'm looking forward to it," Whyte said.

Meanwhile, Green ran a time of 49.33 to qualify as one of the fastest losers.

"I tried a different approach and wanted to attack from early. If I qualify, I will do the same thing," Green said immediately after his race.
