Tough start for Salcia Slack in women's heptathlon

Jamaica’s Salcia Slack on 1740 points, sits in 31st place out of a field of 33 in the women’s heptathlon after two events.

The 25-year-old got a good start in heat two of the 110m hurdles, but hit the second hurdle and never recovered.

She eventually finished eighth with a time of 13.98 seconds which earned her 981 points.

Slack returned an hour and 20 minutes later to compete in the high jump and matched her season best clearance of 1.62m in the high jump, but failed to clear 1.65m.

She finished 33rd overall in the high jump to boost her points tally by 759.

Slack will be the first Jamaica in action Saturday morning when she competes in the women’s shot put at 5:30 a.m.

She has a personal best of 14.99m recorded in April of this year.
