Spencer will run out of lane four in heat two, as she continues her quest for a major championship medal having placed fourth in 2009 and 2011.

Kaliese Spencer and Janieve Russell will look to book their spots in the finals of the women’s 400m hurdles when the semi-finals of the IAAF World Championships get underway at 6:10 a.m.

Spencer will run out of lane four in heat two, as she continues her quest for a major championship medal having placed fourth in 2009 and 2011.

The 28-year-old, who has a season best of 51.14, looked easy in her heat winning in 55.03 to ease fears that she was not at full fitness following injury setbacks during preparation.

National champion, Russell, who like Spencer is coached by the MVP's Stephen Francis, was also smooth in qualifying for the semis taking her heat in 55.09.

The 2012 World Junior champion, who is seeking to advance to a senior championship final on her first attempt, will face the starters in lane seven in the third and final semi-final heat.

The 21-year-old’s season best of 54.83 was recorded in June.
