Spencer, Russell to culminate medal chase in 400m hurdles

Kaliese Spencer and Janieve Russell will be hoping to improve Jamaica’s medal count when they contest the final of the women’s 400m hurdles at 7:10 a.m.

The 28-year-old Spencer, who has a season best of 54.15, will run out of lane seven as she seeks to make it onto the medal podium at a major senior championship for the first time having placed fourth at the 2009 and 2011 World Championships and at the 2012 Olympics.

National champion, Russell, who like Spencer is coached by Stephen Francis, will run out of lane nine.

The 21-year-old World Junior Champion, who is making it to the final of a senior championship on her first attempt, comes in with a season best 54.78 recorded in the semi-finals.
