To the frustration of many of their fans, Arsenal failed to make a single outfield signing in the summer deadline - the only club in the top five leagues in Europe not to do so.

And a day after the deadline, they discovered that striker Danny Welbeck will be out of action until Christmas after undergoing a knee operation.

It is a blow to the Gunners, who have scored just three goals in four Barclays Premier League games, and two of those have been own goals. It leaves them with one recognised central striker in Olivier Giroud, though Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez could operate up front.

Having lost to West Ham and drawn against Liverpool at the Emirates, Arsenal are attempting to win at home for the first time this season.

It is the first time Arsenal have failed to win in their opening two home games since 2006 while they last failed to score in their first two on home soil since 1979. If the Gunners fail to find the net it will be the first time in the club's history that they have not scored in any of their first three home league outings.
