Clarendon give Kellits six-love
Reigning daCosta Cup champions Clarendon College moved further clear of the chasing pack in Group H of the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup football competition, slamming Kellits High 6-0 yesterday.
The win took them to maximum six points and ahead of Lennon and Thompson Town, with three points each. Lennon defeated Thompson Town 3-0, also in yesterday's action. Clarendon had previously defeated Edwin Allen on Saturday.
Last year's beaten finalists, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), again looked frail in a 2-2 draw with Lacovia in their Group E showdown. STETHS now lie third in the group behind leaders Maggotty and Lacovia High, both on four points.
Their lack of form is a worrying sign for the school's technical staff, headed by Wendell Downswell, who downplayed their preseason results, telling The Gleaner they will come good when it matters.
Maggotty, though, have been the surprise package, as they took all three points in a 2-0 victory over Munro that put the Malvern-based school next to last in Group E with one point after two matches.
Meanwhile, Green Pond High played a stubborn game to hold Group A leaders Cornwall College to a 1-1 draw at Jarrett Park. Cornwall weathered the storm to score on the 22nd-minute mark. Alrick Ottey, the brother of Montego Bay United forward Allan Ottey, rose above the Green Pond defenders to flash a header home to make the score 1-0.
Odaine Lewis was issued a second yellow card and was ejected in the 70th minute. Two minutes later, Green Pond scored the equaliser when winger Ever ado Chambers curled a wonderfully taken free-kick over the wall, to beat Cornwall's Jamario Hines in goal.
