Last year's beaten finalists St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) were surprised 1-0 by B.B. Coke in Group E action from the ISSA-Flow daCosta Cup yesterday, a result that ripped the group wide open, making it the most interesting of this year's competition.

Group E is still being led by Lacovia, who defeated Maggotty High 2-0, while Munro logged their first win of the campaign courtesy of a 1-0 victory over the cellar-dwelling Newell High.

But the surprise of the round has to be B.B. Coke's win that put them second in the group on seven points, three behind Lacovia, with Maggotty and the inconsistent STETHS next with five points. Munro are next with four points from four matches.

Omar Wedderburn, the STETHS head coach, certainly knew his opponents were much better than last year. He told The Gleaner in a previous interview that the group possesses teams that could win on any given day.

It was clear that yesterday was never STETHS' day, as B.B. Coke made them pay for a number of missed opportunities to come away with what could amount to their biggest scalp in many years.

Petersfield High, meanwhile, jumped to maximum nine points from three matches, with midfielder Akeil Brown netting a late winner against Godfrey Stewart High in Savanna-la-Mar.

Brown struck in the 80th minute to send his school clear of both Godfrey Stewart and Manning's School in Group D.

"It was another hard game for us, but we managed to score that late winner and are very pleased with this result," said Godfrey Drummond, Petersfield's head coach.

"They missed some chances in a good game, but we held our composure to grab the win. Brown did well all game and will feel very confident ahead of our next match on Saturday against Little London," added Drummond.

Elsewhere, the previously unbeaten Vere Technical suffered their first loss of the season, as Kemps Hill stung them 1-0 at Hayes in a key Group N clash. Vere, however, lead the group with nine points. Kemps Hill kept pace on five points.
