Vision of Gold to rebound
Both the Pick-9 and Super-6s start anew at Caymanas Park tomorrow, the Pick-9 having been caught by a lucky punter on Wednesday. He walked away with a cool $1 million.
The Pick-9, embracing all nine races on the card, offers a guaranteed minimum of $1 million, the Super-6s from race two to seven, the overlapping Super-6 from race four to nine.
We look at the first Super-6, which commences with a 1400-metre claiming race ($250,000 - $210,000), to be contested by nine starters, including top contenders ST BERNARD with smart apprentice Linton Steadman aboard, and BRAVE PROSPECT, to be ridden by the leading jockey Shane Ellis. The Patrick Taylor-trained ST BERNARD caught the eye when finishing a close third to ETERNAL JOY over 1200 metres last Saturday, was running on well at the finish, and will only go down fighting.
Preference is for the three-year-old colt BRAVE PROSPECT from the stables of Neive Graham. Although declared lame for his intended race on October 24 and a late scratch, he will report in good condition and with the trip ideal, is given the edge over the much older ST BERNARD.
The Wayne DaCosta-trained VISION OF GOLD showed promise on his recent debut when second to GIRLY GIRLY LINKS and having looked well at exercise since, could be used as a banker in the second race, the Abbie Grannum Memorial Cup over 1400 metres for native-bred two-year-olds.
Briefly, the stretch running COLD GROUND with apprentice Dane Dawkins aboard, gets the ideal trip (1820 metres) in the fourth race, where UNBREAKABLE looks his main danger. Then, take BLACK BOY (Steadman up) to go one better in the fifth race over 1400 metres; TASHIE BABY (Hakeem Pottinger to do likewise in the sixth; and close all bets with down-in-class DI COBRE under Shane Ellis in the seventh over the straight for $180,000 claimers.
