World Boxing Council (WBC) Female Super Bantamweight champion, Jamaica's Alicia Ashley, has been nominated for three awards that will be made during the second WBC Female Convention that will be held in Tijuana, Mexico, from January 27-31.

On October 29 last year, she regained the title that she lost to Mexican Jackie Nava in 2014, with a unanimous decision over Christina McMahon in New York. Her technical brilliance was on display throughout the fight, as she overwhelmed her opponent.

The WBC was so pleased with her performance and the overall quality of the fight, that she has been shortlisted as Champion of the Year and for Comeback of the Year. The fight has also been listed in the category, Event of the Year.

Speaking to The Gleaner yesterday, Ashley said that she was thrilled to have been in Jamaica recently for the RJR Sportsman and Sportswoman Awards ceremony as a nominee, and that she thoroughly enjoyed the experience once more.

PROUD OF SELF

She said that she was proud to follow this up with nominations in so many WBC categories, and this was icing on the cake, after regaining her title. It was her hope, she said, that she will come out on top in at least one category.

"I think that I have a good shot in the Comeback of the Year and the Champion of the Year categories, and I am optimistic that I will get them," she said.

She added that the public will be involved in the voting, and was hopeful that her fans will cast votes for her no later than today at: http://wbcboxing.com.
