Jamai Raja humbles Bigdaddykool
CLASSIC HOPEFUL BIGDADDYKOOL found the going too hot to handle on his three-year-old debut at Caymanas Park yesterday, finishing a disappointing third behind JAMAI RAJA at a mile.
Richard Azan-trained JAMAI RAJA ran out a four-and-a-half length winner at odds of 9-5, clocking 1:39.4, beating the filly BIRDCATCHER, a 9-1 long shot.
BIGDADDYKOOL finished two-and-a-quarter lengths behind BIRDCATCHER, eased by jockey Shane Ellis approaching the last furlong.
It was a dismal run by BIGDADDYKOOL, who had finished third in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes on Boxing Day, beating JAMAI RAJA out of sight at a mile.
Sent off as the 1-5 favourite, BIGDADDYKOOL was slowly into stride as usual and tailed off at the half mile while JAMAI RAJA went in chase of STUNNER, who led from the start.
JAMAI RAJA, treated with lasix for the first time and without his regular tongue strap, pounced on STUNNER coming off the home turn and stayed on strongly under jockey Dane Nelson, handing the three-time champion rider his second winner of the afternoon.
Nelson opened the 11-race card with a win aboard 7-2 chance DWAYNE STAR, beating howling 1-5 favourite FORTUNEONEHUNDRED by seven and a half lengths.
ACTION MAN made all with four-time champion jockey Omar Walker to romp the 1100-metre Howard Phillipps Memorial by six-and-a-half lengths.
