KINGSTOWN, St Vincent, (CMC):

Devon Thomas fashioned his second first-class hundred but his first in regional cricket, while left-arm spinner Nikita Miller then grabbed two wickets to inch towards 400 first-class wickets, as Jamaica Scorpions dominated Windward Islands Volcanoes on the second day of their ninth-round contest yesterday.

The right-handed Thomas, an Antiguan who captained Leeward Islands Hurricanes up to last season, stroked an enterprising 122 to guide his new side up to 445 all out in their first innings at the Arnos Vale Stadium.

Partnership

Captain Paul Palmer struck a career-best 82 in a fabulous 178-run, sixth wicket partnership with Thomas, which enabled Scorpions to build on their overnight 284 for five.

Left-arm seamer Delorn Johnson was the best bowler, with four for 84, while off-spinner and captain Liam Sebastien picked up three for 113, and leg-spinner Keron Cottoy, two for 128.

In reply, Volcanoes were going strong at 138 for three, but lost two wickets late in the day to finish on 149 for five - still 296 runs behind going into day three.

Sunil Ambris top-scored with a breezy 50 off 77 balls, with five fours and a six, rookie Jerlani Robinson chipped in with 31, while veteran opener Devon Smith struck 26.

The 33-year-old Miller, who has played one Test and 46 One-Day Internationals, but has been overlooked by selectors for the last 12 months, knocked over Under-19 World Cup star Gidron Pope for 14 and then claimed Ambris, to move to 398 first-class wickets.

Thomas owned the day, however, with a classy innings - only his second triple- figure score in seven years.

Resuming the day on 24 not out, he counted 13 fours and two sixes in a knock that spanned 166 deliveries and just over 31/2 hours.
