CRICKET: Windies beat England in World T20, Gayle hits century

West Indies defeated England by six wickets in their opening Group One encounter of the Twenty20 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in India today.

Chasing 183 for victory, the West Indies reached 183 for four in 18.1 overs.

Opener Chris Gayle led the way for Caribbean side with 100 not out. He received support from Marlon Samuels, who made 37.

Andre Russell (16) and Denesh Ramdin (12) were the other main scorers for the West Indies.

Earlier, Russell claimed two for 36 and Dwayne Bravo picked up two for 41 to help restrict England for 182 off their 20 overs.

Joe Root (48), Jos Buttler (28) and Eoin Morgan (27) were the main scorers for England.  

The West Indies will face Sri Lanka in their second match on Sunday.
