Janieve Russell registered a personal best of 54.16 seconds to win the 400m hurdles at Africa’s inaugural Diamond League meeting in Rabat, Morocco today.
Drawn in lane 4, Russell made a steady start and then showed her class to pull away from the field which included highly rated American Cassandra Tate who clocked 54.69 to record a season’s best.
Apart from a stumble over the final obstacles, the Jamaican was faultless and the win sets her up for an intriguing season.
Third place went to South Africa’s Wanda Theron Nel (54.88).
