Top junior marksman Brandon Reid will be in the spotlight today as he seeks to stave off the challenge of some of Jamaica's most talented young shooters and defend his NCB Capital Markets Junior Sporting Clays title at the Jamaica Skeet Club's shooting range in Portmore, St. Catherine.

The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. and will be preceded by registration at 8 a.m.

In addition to Reid, today's competitive field will include Nicholas Chen, Chad Ziadie, Nicholai Clarke, and Zachary Chen.

Fiercely contested

With this championship being one of the biggest and most fiercely contested over the years, Jamaica Skeet Club President Khaleel Azan is expecting another bumper turn out while noting that competition will be stiff.

"A big field is expected to compete on Sunday based on the response so far. The level of competition has increased significantly in recent times, and it will be a very good tournament," he pointed out.

Juniors, from A, B and C; Sub-Junior A and B; Girls A and B and Beginners classes will be pushing each other, added Azan.

"The juniors in all categories, including the girls, have been practicing keenly for this tournament, and we expect them to do well," Azan said.

Today, there will be 13 shooting stations. In the beginners' category, there will be a 50-round shoot-off, while the others will be expected to shoot 100 birds.

The top six shooters will then qualify for the super six round. The shooter with the highest super six score will emerge the overall trophy winner.

The event sponsors include NCB Capital Markets, Reggae Jammins, Tru-Juice, Wata and Ranger Security.
