The People's National Party (PNP) joins with the many millions worldwide in paying tribute to the life of an icon of our times, Muhammad Ali, former three-time world heavyweight boxing champion and a great humanist and champion of oppressed people globally.

"We grieve with his family and legions of fans even as we give thanks for his life, which was an example of courage and conviction in fighting against injustice and in standing up for human dignity, even at a great cost to himself personally," a news release stated.

The PNP recalled that Ali visited Jamaica in the 1974 and met with "our former leader and prime minister, Michael Manley, and was a friend of Jamaica.

"We trust that his family and friends in the international community will find solace in the many great memories of his life and times, which changed the world for the better." the party added.
