World 400m champion Wayde van Niekerk dazzled inside the National Stadium, winning the men's 300m at the Jamaica National Racers Grand Prix in 31.03 seconds.

Van Niekerk seemed to have benefited from his week long training with 100m and 200m world record holder Usain Bolt in the build up to this meet, as he not only lowered his personal best, but also improved the world lead, which previously stood at 32.48, in the rarely ran event.

American power-block Lashawn Merritt was second in 31.23 seconds with Tony McQuay, 31.64 claiming third place.
