Jamaica's young golf team placed an impressive second when competition ended yesterday in the 54-hole Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship (CAJGC).

The island's golfers were runners-up to defending champions Puerto Rico in the tournament played at the Barbados Golf Club.

There were several outstanding individual performances among the Jamaicans. Sebert Walker Jr placed 10th in the tournament overall and third in 15-and-under boys competition, while Justin Burrowes was fifth in the same age group. Hannah Foster pulled off Jamaica's only win with her first place in the girls' 15-and-under category and tying for 12th place overall in the tournament with teammate Tiana Cruz. Cruz placed second among girls 17 and under, while Kei Harris was sixth.

The overall performance topped Jamaica's fourth at last year's tournament.

"I'm very proud of the team. It's the best result we've had in a very, very long time," team coach Jason Lopez said.
