Jamaica's Jaheel Hyde produced a smashing performance today to take gold in the men's 400m hurdles at the IAAF World Under-20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Hyde defended the title he won in Eugene, Oregon in 2014 with a 49.03 seconds run.

After the event a delighted Hyde said that he came out to defend his title.

"Mission accomplished, the time was not important to me as I just came out to defend my title and now I am just going to enjoy it, and take a week off before focusing on preparations for the Olympic Games," said Hyde.

Hyde won ahead of silver medalist USA's Taylor McLaughlin 49.45(PB) and bronze medallist British Virgin Island's 49.56(NU20R).
