SBC finals spots on the line
Both series in the National Integrity Action (NIA)-Southern Basketball Conference (SBC) Community League semi-finals will be decided in today's game three after Pembroke Hall and Spanish Town Spartans levelled their series at 1-1, following victories over EXED Heats and Arnett Gardens Rockers at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Sunday.
Pembroke Hall turned back EXED 70-66, while Spartans defeated Arnett Gardens 75-68.
In the first game, Andrew Whilby led Pembroke Hall with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Leighton Meeks scored 14 points. Cordell Grant was the Heats' top-scorer with 23 points, supported by Rohan Robinson with 15 points and nine rebounds.
EXED started the better team, leading 23-20 after the first quarter and 45-40 at half-time. But Pembroke Hall dominated the third quarter, which they won 19-5 to lead 59-50 going into the last stanza. EXED tried desperately to turn things around in the final period, but Pembroke Hall held on for a four-point (70-66) win despite losing the quarter 16-11.
In the feature match, Spartans started well, but the home team rallied to lead 41-38 at half-time and 58-51 at the end of the third quarter.
However, in the fourth period, the Spartans dug deep and produced a remarkable display to outscore their opponents 24-10 to take the game by seven points.
In tonight's matches, Pembroke Hall will host EXED at Pembroke Hall, while the Rockers will take on the Spartans at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
