After just missing out on a medal in the 100m, Yohan Blake says he is expecting things to go better for him over the longer sprint.

He also paid homage to his training partner, Usain Bolt, who won a third straight Olympic gold medal on Sunday night inside the Olympic Stadium here n Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Blake clocked a season's best 9.93 seconds to finish fourth in the 100m final behind Bolt, 9.81, Justin Gatlin (USA), 9.89 and Andre de Grasse (Canada), 9.91.

The 26-year-old has endured a torrid few seasons, suffering back-to-back injuries after becoming the youngest ever World 100m champion in Daegu, South Korea in 2011.

Blake won double silver at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, but is only now returning to his first major international championships since then.

"God has been good. I can't complain. It has been rough, but I'm not disappointed," Blake shared. "The 200m will be good. It will be better for me, for sure. I'm fit and I feel like I'm ready. The 100m was good. It was a good race, but the 200m will be better.

"I'm happy, I've taken it one race at a time; it wasn't easy to come back after all those years out, but I made it this far after a couple rough years and I am really grateful. At some point I couldn't even make it to national trials, so to be here competing in the 100m is a blessing," added Blake.

"Right now I'm glad to have made the final, and I'm looking forward to a good 200m."

Blake believes Bolt has secured his place among the greatest sporting personalities in the sport after his 100m victory and said he feels privileged to have witnessed his success.

"I want to congratulate Usain Bolt. He has been a monster on the track, he's a legend, a true icon of the sport, and I'm happy to have witnessed that," Blake said. "It's not easy to do what he did after 12 years competing at the Olympics. This puts him with the greats like (Muhammad) Ali and those guys."

In addition to the 200m, Blake will also feature in the 4x100m relay.
