Jamaica attracts global interest as athletes shine during Olympics
Jamaica's sport minister says several countries have expressed interest in forging partnerships as the island's athletes continue to perform impressively.
Minister Olivia Grange says during her time at the Olympic Games in Brazil she has held bilateral discussions with her counterparts from a number of countries.
As part of the discussions, she says several countries have expressed interest in staging major athletics events in Jamaica.
Grange also revealed that Jamaica and Kenya revived discussions which started in 2008 about sharing expertise in athletics.
She says the Kenyans are interested in providing Jamaica with technical assistance in long distance running.
In return, she says Jamaica would provide the Kenyans with technical assistance in the sprints.
Grange said she also had discussions with the sport ministers of Brazil and several countries across the Caribbean. And she says Jamaica and the United States have rekindled discussion about a track and field face-off between the two nations.
