Hamilton steal third
BRUSSELS, Belgium (CMC):
Lewis Hamilton made a brilliant recovery from the back row of the grid to steal third place as his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg took first position in the Belgian Grand Prix yesterday.
Rosberg's victory from pole position cuts by nine his points deficit to Hamilton during a race in which Renault's Kevin Magnusson suffered a violent crash and was taken to hospital with an injured left ankle.
Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo held off a late charge by Hamilton to place second.
Heading into the Italian Grand Prix next weekend, Hamilton remains in the lead on 232 points, Rosberg has 223, while Ricciardo is on 151 points.
Militants behind cricket attack killed
LAHORE, Pakistan (AP):
Pakistani officials said yesterday that four Islamic extremists allegedly involved in a 2009 attack on the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team were killed in a shoot-out with police personnel.
The attack on the cricket team killed six police and two bystanders and wounded six cricket players. The Pakistani Taliban and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, an affiliated extremist group, claimed the attack, which was carried out by 10 gunmen.
The shoot-out erupted late Saturday on the edge of Lahore when other gunmen tried to break the militants out of police custody, a counterterrorism official said. Another senior official confirmed the account. Both spoke on condition of anonymity, fearing retribution.
