BRUSSELS, Belgium:
Jamaican quarter-miler Stephenie-Ann McPherson said she was thrilled to have won the women’s 400m Diamond Trophy after her third placed finish at the Brussels Memorial van Damme Diamond League in Belgium today.

McPherson ran 50.51 to finish behind 800m standout Caster Semenya, who ran a personal best 50.40 and American Courtney Okolo, 50.51, ending the campaign on 39 points seven more than second placed finisher and her threat for the trophy Natasha Hastings, who was fifth in 50.84.

“I am happy for the win, and I am also happy that four Jamaican women will compete in the event at the World Championships in London next year,” McPherson told The Gleaner.

“I don’t think I executed the race well today, but I got the Diamond so I am pleased about that.”

Olympic bronze medal winner Shericka Jackson was fourth in 50.73.
