Cunningham fifth in javelin throw

Jamaica's Alphanso Cunningham placed fifth in the F54/53 javelin throw final on the second day of competition at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, yesterday.

Cunningham, the only F53 competitor in the five-man field, threw a season's best 19.49 metres.

The event was won by Manolis Stefanoudakis of Greece with a Paralympic record throw of 29.45 metres. The silver medal went to Mexico's Luis Alberto Zepeda Felix, who threw a season's best 25.92m, while the bronze medal winner was Aliaksandr Tryputs of Belarus, 23.56m.

Cunningham will next compete in the F53 shot put on Wednesday, September 14.
