BUZZ NIGHTMARE, with Oneil Oneil Mullings aboard, sprints clear of third-placed BRAWN (Aaron Chatrie) and SEEKING MY DREAM (Omr Walker), who placed fifth, in the 44th Running of the Alex's Import Gold Cup over 1400 metres at Caymanas Park on Monday, October 17, 2016.

BUZZ NIGHTMARE cemented his status as one of the best horses in the country with an impressive victory in the 44th running of the Alex's Import Gold Cup over 1400 metres at Caymanas Park yesterday.

Running at odds of 5-2 with Oneil Mullings riding for 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny and owners 2 PENYU, BUZZ NIGHTMARE raced to his fifth consecutive win to put himself in line for possible 'Horse of the Year' honours.

The fleet-footed 4-y-o gelding by Into Mischief out of Queen of Battle covered the distance in the smart time of 1:23.4 in winning by 2 3/4 lengths from fellow lightweights PHINEAS and BRAWN, both at 7-1, behind splits of 22.4, 45.0 and a blistering 1:10.0 for the first six furlongs. His time was a full second slower than the long-standing track record set by the legendary EROS for Feanny in the 1994 Gold Cup.

"He's yet to show his full potential," asserted Feanny, who was saddling his 11th gold cup winner.

Mullings had a second winner on the card in the Spencer Chung-trained KING D (9-2), who made all over 1100 metres for a facile win in the ninth race, while champion trainer Wayne DaCosta posted three winners in RUNAWAY GIRL, FEARLESS SAMURAI and SUPERTRONICS, all highly fancied.
