$5m colt hits the Park tomorrow

Published:Friday | October 28, 2016 | 12:00 AM
Jockey Shane Ellis will be aboard PONTIUS PILATE.

Both the Pick-9 and Super-6s start anew on tomorrow's well supported 12-race-programme at Caymanas Park, and with large and competitive fields evident, punters will be required to dig deep to find the winning combinations.

The Pick-9 will embrace races four to 12, the first Super-6 from race one to six, the late Super-6 from seven to 12. The Pick-9 offers a guaranteed minimum of $1 million, the Super-6s $750,000 each.

The opening race over 1100 metres for three-year-olds has attracted some very speedy horses and it promises to be close in a field of seven. Significantly, champion trainer Wayne DaCosta has two live contenders in recent winner GOLD MINER and LITTLE BIG HORN. Former champion Philip Feanny saddles BUBBLING KITTEN and DANCING QUEEN while Gary Subratie also has two in SIMPLY THE BEST and BIG DATA, all fit horses.

It will be hot, but I believe Feanny holds the key with either BUBBLING KITTEN (Leo Miller up) or DANCING QUEEN (Oneil Mullings).

BROOKLYN, who failed by a neck to stave off 99-1 outside A VESSEL OF LOVE over 1100 metres recently, should welcome the longer distance of the second race over 1820 metres and with champion jockey Shane Ellis now taking the ride, the hint should be taken. LATE N' DRAFTY and STRAIGHTFROMTHEHEART are twin dangers in a field of 10 maiden three-year-olds.

The day's five-star banker comes in the form of PONTIUS PILATE (Ellis up) in the third race over 1200 metres for maiden two-year-olds. Trained by Anthony 'Baba' Nunes, PONTIUS PILATE makes his debut with a big reputation, the son of Forest Danger - Sea Treaty having fetched the record price of $5 million at last year's yearling sale.

Working really well in preparation for this race, PONTIUS PILATE is a half brother to three derby winners, including the recent T&T derby winner ACADEMY AWARD, also trained by Nunes at his overseas stable.

Briefly, DASH BOARD, with in-form apprentice Javaniel Patterson aboard, gets the nod over recent course winner MAMETA (Ellis up) in the fourth race over the straight, while the last two races in the first Super-6 should be won by JUNIOR DON (Omar Walker up) and DEMOLITION BOY under top apprentice Bebeto Harvey).
