Ramgeet lands double to maintain lead
PHOENIX, United States (CMC):
Jamaican Andrew Ramgeet continued at the top of the jockeys standings at Turf Paradise after reeling off a brace of wins on Tuesday's eight-race card.
The veteran reinsman had seven rides on the day, but had to wait until the last two races on the card before he could reach the winners' enclosure.
He captured race seven with 4-1 chance Purple Sky, before returning in the day's final event to score with favourite Red N Black Attack.
With the success, Ramgeet moved to 30 wins, three clear of defending champion Scott Stevens, in the season which started October 15 and which wraps up May 7 next year.
The pair have already opened up a significant lead on the field with the third-place Larren Delorme having 18 wins.
Ramgeet opened his account over a mile and made virtually all the running with five-year-old bay gelding Purple Sky to trounce the three-year-old and upwards by 2 3/4 lengths.
He dueled with Passed Due through the half-mile run in 47.59 seconds before getting clear to dominate the stretch run and was without any serious challengers at the wire.
Ramgeet then copped his second win over six furlongs when he brought another five-year-old bay gelding, Red N Black Attack, from off the pace to beat the three-year-old and upwards.
My Grandson and Brave Julian duelled through the half-mile, but Ramgeet moved Red N Black Attack from stalking the pace to the front at the eighth pole to control the remainder of the contest.
