KINGSTON:

Supreme Ventures Limited, one of the main sponsors of tomorrow's Diamond Mile set for Caymanas Park, is promising an event with more than just a touch of class. Seventeen of the island's best thoroughbreds have been nominated for the big race that will ensure that the race will be of the highest quality.

The activities off the track are expected to match, if not exceed, what will be a spectacular race.

Having bought into the vision of Gary Peart, chairman of the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission, SVL is planning to make this year's second staging of the Diamond Mile even better.

"Last year when they started it we got involved because we saw the vision that Gary Peart had to introduce this event of which there is no other like it in the Caribbean - and it was such a huge success," said Simone Clarke Cooper, the assistant vice-president, group corporate communications at SVL. "From the time it happened people have been buzzing about it. We are planning to step it up this year."

The Diamond Mile, with the richest purse in the Caribbean, is already a cut above the rest.

"It's a glitzy kind of affair. It's taking horse racing to that kind of world class, prestigious standard that you would see at Ascot or any of the top horseracing venues," she said.

"We have a huge set-up that we are putting on, on the in-field. We want all the patrons to come out dressed to the nines to have a day that is not only horse-racing, but one which fans will enjoy."

She said guests under their big tent on the in-field will enjoy world-class savoir-faire. "Underneath our big tent on the in-field we will be entertaining our guests there. It's horse racing mixed with glamour, glitz, entertainment, top-notch food, and drink. It's will be an experience," she said.

"Patrons in the stands will also enjoy what SVL has in store. There will be prizes for the best dressed and there will be lots of other giveaways that SVL believes will make the Diamond Mile race day unforgettable," Clarke Cooper added.
