CAS rejects Serbia's Kosovo challenge

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP):

The Serbian football federation's appeal against Kosovo joining UEFA has been rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The court ruled that Kosovo met the standard of UEFA entry rules because it is "recognised by the majority of the United Nations member states as an 'independent state.'"

Serbia argued that Kosovo, which joined European football's governing body last May despite not being a U.N. member, should be blocked.

European football federations voted 28-24 in favour of Kosovo's entry to UEFA after Serbia led opposition to its former province.

Napoli edge Fiorentina in Coppa clash

Jose Callejon's 71st minute header was proved to be the decider as Napoli beat Fiorentina 1-0 to reach the Coppa Italia semi-final as both teams ended with 10 men.

Napoli will face either holders Juventus or Milan in the semis, after those two meet in today's eagerly anticipated contest at the Juventus Stadium.

AC Milan have beaten Juventus twice already this season; 1 - 0 in a league game at the San Siro and on penalties in the Super Coppa in Doha in December.

McIlroy aiming for March return

Rory McIlroy is targeting the Mexico Championship in March as his return to tournament action from injury.

McIlroy aggravated a rib stress fracture, while finishing runner-up at the SA Open in Gauteng two weekends ago. Those injuries typically take about six weeks to heal, and he believes he'll be ready to play again in the first World Golf Championship of the year, from March 2-5.
