Heineken back for CANS
Heineken has confirmed that it will continue to support the Caribbean Association of Neurosurgeons (CANS) MedGolf Classic.
The 2017 staging of the competition is scheduled for today in Montego Bay at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course, Rose Hall.
This year marks the premium beer brand's fourth year as a sponsor of the event. The tournament has enabled CANS to hand over medical equipment to the University Hospital of the West, including Lead Jackets for use in intra-operative surgical X-rays, Radiolucent Wilson Table Frame (for intra-operative X-rays in spine surgery), and Lumbar Surgical Instrumentation (for back surgery).
"From the proceeds of the CANS 2017 Charity Golf Tournament, we are aiming to purchase a neuroendoscopic device. This piece of equipment is expected to have a major impact on our ability to treat tumours," said Dr Carl Bruce, consultant neurosurgeon at the University Hospital of the West Indies. euroendoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which tumours are removed through small holes in the skull or through the mouth or nose.
"We are happy to support this initiative and see this as an excellent opportunity to give back. CANS is using golf as a medium to promote the need for world-class health care in the Caribbean and we endorse their efforts wholeheartedly," said Suwannee Stewart, brand manager for Heineken.
The golf tournament will be held in conjunction with the Department of Surgery, Radiology, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
