Antyukh announces retirement

MOSCOW (AP):

Russian runner Natalia Antyukh has announced her retirement days after being stripped of an Olympic relay medal due to a teammate's doping offence.

Russian state news agency R-Sport quotes 35 year-old Antyukh, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist in the 400-metre hurdles, as saying she has had "enough" of competing and will not race anymore.

Darcis secures big win

Steve Darcis defeated Alexander Zverev 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (8) to send Belgium into the Davis Cup World Group quarter-finals with an unsurmountable 3-1 lead over Germany yesterday.

With the tie already decided, Ruben Bemelmans beat Mischa Zverev 7-5, 6-1, giving Belgium a 4-1 upset victory - its first over Germany at the ninth attempt in the Davis Cup.

Sevilla lose ground

MADRID (AP):

A wasted penalty. A goal disallowed for offside. An inspired goalkeeper.

It all led to another disappointing setback for Sevilla, which were held by Villarreal to a 0-0 draw at home yesterday and missed a chance to move closer to the Spanish league lead.

The result left Sevilla in third place with 43 points, two behind Barcelona and three behind leaders Real Madrid.
