$250,000 increase in Guineas purses
Purses for this year's 1000 and 2000 Guineas have been increased by new promoting company, Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL).
SVREL's Chief Operating Officer, Brando Hayden announced the increases at a press launch for the 43-year-old race day at the winners' enclosure at Caymanas Park on Tuesday.
Both races will see a $250,000 increase from $3.25 million to $3.5 million. The Jamaica 1000 Guineas will feature native-bred 3-year-old fillies while the Jamaica 2000 will feature native-bred 3-year-old colts and geldings.
Hayden thanked this year's major sponsors of the race day, Cash Pot, who have put $2.5 million on the table as part of their ongoing Cash Pot Mega Ball promotion.
"We are appreciative of the support of the Cash Pot Mega Ball promotion, which will assist us in making this the best and most well-staged Jamaica 1000 & 2000 Guineas in its 43-year history," Hayden said.
The increase in purses for the April 8 Jamaica 1000 & 2000 Guineas Classic is part of a move by SVREL to increase the overall purse structure for this racing year by $100 million, effective April 1. The increase is part of a promise made by SVREL to horseracing stakeholders prior to the official March 7 takeover.
