Calabar’s Kevroy Venson completed an upset over the much-favoured Kingston College athlete Ari Rodgers in the Class Two Boys 1500m at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys & Girls' Athletics Championships a short while ago.

From the outset the Calabar duo of Kimar Farquharson and Venson had a plan as they paired up much in the way African runners do in international competition going out hard together and taking an early lead.

Venson's time was a record run and surpasses of 3:57.28.

Rodgers who was among the pack pulled back as Venson and Farquharson fell slightly back but with just over 500m remaining the race heated up as Rodgers and Venson ran almost neck and neck until the final 100m as Venson pulled ahead and away to load cheers from Calabar supporters.

Venson won in a time in 3:55.33 to Rodgers’ 3:57.02.

Rodgers has been at the centre of controversy for the month as Calabar High School demanded that ISSA’s reasoning for allowing him to compete at the Championships despite arriving in Jamaica two weeks beyond the final registration date for school be made public.
