Richard 'Frog' Holmes booked his spot in the semi final of the Wray and Nephew Contender series with a win by unanimous decision over Canadian Frank Cotroni at the Chinese Benevolent Association Auditorium last night.

Holmes had the better of the first three rounds of the contest but Cotroni fought back hard in the final two, and even had his opponent stuck on the ropes in the final minutes of the bout.

Judge Ransford Burton scored the contest 48-47, while Jeremy Hayes' score was 49-46, as was Ian Jardine's, all in favour of Holmes, who now joins Jamaican Sakima Mullings and Canadian Phil Rose in the semi final. They all await the winner of next week's bout between Jamaican Tsetsi Davis and Ryan Young of Canada.

Earlier in the evening, Sanjay Williams of the Bruising Gym defeated Dream Sports Gym's Ricardo Carter, while Kirkpatrick Heron of the St Thomas Gym beat the Jamaica Defence Force's Kevona Willis, in the two amateur undercard bouts.
