Former director of Jamaica's football, Vin Blaine, said the passing of Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president captain Horace Burrell did not influence his recent decision to resign from the post and take up his new role as Technical Director of Grenada's football programme.

Blaine said it has been a longtime ambition of his to take his talents to another country and he believes that with Grenada, he will have the support and the chance to demonstrate his technical expertise.

"It is an opportunity to improve the football there. I have been given everything I want based on the conversations I have had already, so I don't see any drawbacks. My destiny is in my own hands and to make sure the football improves, and my thing is to improve , so I am going there with an objective," he told The Gleaner.

Blaine will work for his new employers for the next two years, but his intention is to extend the contract at the end of that term as he does not think two years will be enough to achieve all his objectives.

"It's a two-year contract to begin with, but at the end, we are definitely looking to extend it, because I don't think two years is enough to reach where we want. That is just foundation work. And all the teams that defeated Grenada in the last three years, we must take care of that," he added.

The former Harbour View coach will officially part ways with the JFF on July 12, and getting acclimatised with Grenadian football will be his first point of duty.

Football culture

"Initially I will have to look at the culture of the country and what they have in place already.

"The Grenada FA president (Cheney Joseph) and I are on the same wave-length as far as development is concerned and the approach to development. He (Joseph) has an objective and that is something I am looking forward to. But first it is to get acclimatised to the country and then see how we go forward. I don't know when I will start but my last day with the JFF is July 12," Blaine added.
