St. Hugh’s, Belair hunt prep schools cricket title
The final of the 2017 Scotiabank Prep Schools cricket competition will be played today at Sabina Park. Match time is 9:30 a.m.
Belair Prep, who won the Middlesex county title, will come up against the Surrey county champions, St. Hugh's Prep, in the national final.
The Johnson brothers of St Hugh's Prep - Jordan, Jordon and Joshua - will look to replicate the bowling and batting prowess they displayed in the semi-final against Emans Prep.
Batting first, St Hugh's made 372 with Jordan Johnson top scoring with 293. The Johnson brothers then destroyed the Emans batting order by dismissing them for 88. Jordon Johnson picked up three for four while Joshua Johnson bagged three for 10.
Rushane Samuels, coach of St. Hugh, said his young cricketers are ready for the final.
"We are really confident in our ability and preparation. We have four sets of brothers in the team. This makes team unity a little easier because they all play different sports together like football and swimming. This is very important because the families that support the cricket are the same ones that also support the other sports," Samuels said.
Belair Prep defeated Ardenne Prep by four wickets in the semi-final. The presentation ceremony will take place immediately after the final.
