Assistant coach of St George's College Marcel 'Fuzzy' Gayle said that he was happy with his team's performance despite missing several clear opportunities in their 1-0 victory over Denham Town in the ISSA/Flow Manning Cup Group D encounter at Winchester Park yesterday.

Akeem Robotham netted the lone goal for the Georgians in the 86th minute. The victory have moved the Neville 'Bertis' Bell-coached St George's to maximum 15 points from five games.

"I am not concerned about us not scoring a lot of goals today," said Gayle.

"I know that we are going to have tough games, but we still found it (the goal). You're going to have times when five or six persons are going to be in front of the goal and it is going to be a little difficult, but we got a goal, so that is good.

"I think that Denham Town played a good tactical game and it took us some time to break them down, but I thought we were disciplined. We had to wait a while before he got that goal," Gayle said.

The Light Blues dominated the match from the opening whistle, but poor finishing from their attackers let them down.

Robotham thought he had given his team the lead in the fifth minute, but his powerful shot from 10 yards, was tipped over the crossbar by goalkeeper Dante Watt.

Nathaniel Campbell and Romario Harding were also guilty of missing a number of clear-cut chances for St George's throughout the game.

Meanwhile, Denham Town head coach Omar Edwards said his team played well despite the defeat.

"I think we played a good game defensively despite us losing the game," said Edwards.

"I think we defended stoutly up to 85 minutes, but in the end, we gave up a soft goal. Kudos to St Georges because they put the ball down and they passed it around, so they deserve their victory," Edwards said.

Denham Town are fifth in the group on three points from five games.
