Bridgeport want favour from Lady Luck
Third-place Bridgeport High travel to Old Hope Road this afternoon knowing that a win against Jamaica College (JC) would at least put them second in the table ahead of the defending champions on goal difference, in Group B of the ISSA-FLOW Manning Cup.
Bridgeport, who are on 12 points, trail St Andrew Technical (STATHS) and leaders JC by three points, and have the same goal difference as the champions. Their assistant coach, Jason Grant, said they are going for the win but hope "lady luck" is on their side this time around.
"We always have confidence, but in football you can't predict. We have a mixed bunch with a whole lot of young players and they have always been doing well. It's just that lady luck has not been on our side, so we hope to have lady luck on our side tomorrow (today) and things work in our favour," he said.
"We believe we can win the Manning Cup and that is our goal. The last game we had JC down one-nil until the last 30 seconds of the game, and they got back [into it]. So we just have to go out and put our best foot forward and hope lady luck turns our way," he reasoned.
The St Catherine school will look to Javon Bascoe, Jevaughn Dunn, captain Kyle Ming, Raheem Walker, and Jevaughn Brown to guide them to a win today.
"In the first game, we realised that JC have a lot of quality players, they run a lot and pass the ball well," Grant said. "We have to play them with a lot of respect and don't get complacent. Complacency can hurt us. But if we don't get the win, we will take the draw. The coach (Garnet Lawrence) and I are going for the win," he added.
The Miguel Coley-coached Jamaica College will bank on Maleik Howell, Tevin Rochester, Tyreke McGhee and Shaneil Thomas for three points.
