The fifth staging of the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (SFP) Six-A-Side Football competition had its dress parade last Saturday, October 14.

Despite a sudden downpour of rain, Angola Strikers, with their two female first-aiders, were declared the winners. Small House were second and Hallmark third.

The competition will comprise 20 teams in five zones, A to E, with four teams each. Teams will play each other once, in a round-robin format, with the winners of the five zones and the three best second-placed teams, advancing to the next knockout round. The final is scheduled for Saturday, December 2.

All games that were scheduled for the Heroes Day weekend were postponed, and the league will now kick off today, with two-time defending champions Eurotrend playing Trendsetter at 2 p.m. and Avengers versus Rose Town at 3 p.m. in Zone A. In Zone B, Malhatra oppose Henley at 4 p.m. and Hallmark play Bridgeview at 5 p.m.

Tomorrow's Zone C games will be St Aubyn vs Checkers at 2 p.m. and Miles vs Untouchables at 3 p.m., while in Zone D, the matches are Angola vs Small House at 4 p.m. and Whippers play Darkside.

Fraser-Pryce, an Olympic and World 100 metres champion, said that she was very excited that the competition was getting under way after the delays.

"This event has become a staple on the calendar for Waterhouse and neighbouring communities, and persons look forward to the competition," Fraser-Pryce said.

Title sponsor is Nike. The other main sponsors are telecommunications giant Digicel and GraceKennedy, for whom Fraser-Pryce is an ambassador; Wisynco, through their product Wata; Main Event; and Toyota Jamaica.
