Cricket and baseball enthusiasts will soon be able to gain an opportunity to enhance their craft overseas.

Triple A Sports and Technology, in collaboration with Fusion Sports, are in the process of engaging universities in the United States and United Kingdom to offer scholarships to successful candidates.

In an interview with The Gleaner, Alfred Thompson, managing director of Triple A Sports, said this is an avenue to help young people make use of the myriad of opportunities that the sports industry offers.

"I'm targeting students aged between 18 and 24. By that time, I'm expecting that they would have at least completed sixth form. We want to select the best both in terms of talent and academics," he said.

"Discipline and commitment are also important because we not only want those who can play; we are looking for rounded individuals."

Thompson said the aim is to make it an annual programme that will provide a platform for students to access career opportunities.

"I grew up in Clarendon, where I developed a deep love for cricket and I wanted to play to the highest level, but I didn't get the chance. I believe that you can still give someone else a chance to achieve the highest, and that's really the bottom line. "

"We have expanded it to baseball as well, that just in case a student has the potential to matriculate into baseball programmes, they will have that chance, and it also presents big time money," He said
