Local junior tennis player, John Chin, has been awarded a travel grant by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Under the conditions of the grant, Chin must compete in a minimum of three international tournaments before the end of 2017. He will participate in world-class events and compete against top players from around the world in his age group and above. This will expose the player to different playing styles, tactics, conditions, and court surfaces. The 14-year-old Chin has expressed his joy at getting the grant.

"I am happy about the travel grant because I can use it to try to get ITF points for an Under-18 ranking," Chin said.

Coached locally by Ryan Russell of the Russell Tennis Academy, Chin was chosen for the grant after his excellent results at major regional tennis tournaments during 2017. He first captured the Confederacion de Tenis de Centroamerica y el Caribe (COTECC) No 1 ranking in Under-14s after a strong tour of the Caribbean earlier this year. Chin also played both the Under-14 and Under-16 categories at the closed regional COTECC Championships known as JITIC. This was held in the Dominican Republic in August. He was an Under-14 finalist in that weeklong tournament which attracted the top players from Central America and the Caribbean.
