ISSA netball second round continues today

Published:Monday | November 13, 2017 | 12:00 AMRaymond Graham

The second rounds of the ISSA Rural and Urban Schoolgirl netball competitions have reached midpoint, and tomorrow and Wednesday there will be some crucial matches in both competition as teams try their best to secure semi-final places. Bad weather over the past week has resulted in several matches being postponed, but all is set to get back on stream once again.

Competition will focus on the Corporate Area tomorrow, where there will be six matches each in the junior and senior divisions, which will get underway at 2 p.m.

In junior action, defending champions, Gaynstead, St Hugh's and surprise package Merl Grove will be hoping to maintain their winning record. The feature game will be the clash between Merl Grove and the defending champions, who have looked awesome in their matches so far. And despite Merl Grove playing their best netball in years, they could find the Dalton Hinds-coached team too hot to handle.

Among seniors, the feature game will be the clash between 2015 champions Camperdown and St Catherine High. This will be a very important match for the Wayne Stewart-coached Camperdown, as a defeat here could ruin their chances of making the semi-finals following a loss to defending champions Excelsior in their previous game. St Catherine are unbeaten in the group and a win could put them one step closer to the semi-finals as they can afford to lose to Gaynstead, another unbeaten team in the group, and still qualify.
