Top netballers on show at Intercol finals
SEVERAL of the country's top netballers, including Sunshine Girls captain Jhaniele Fowler-Reid, will be on show today at the 2017 Intercollegiate netball finals.
The finals will be hosted by Mico University College and the action starts at noon.
The feature match will be the 5:30 p.m. senior final between Mico A and the University of Technology (UTech). The match will showcase several members of the Jamaica senior team, which finished second at the recent Fast5 tournament in Australia.
Mico will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of wins after winning the 2015 and 2016 finals.
Captain and goalshooter Fowler, undoubtedly one of the best in the world in that position, will lead the Mico charge. Also on the Mico team are Nicole Dixon, Under-21 captain Kadie-Ann Dehaney and another Under-21 representative, Mischa Creary.
UTech will rely on Shanice Beckford and Khadijah Williams, two players who were also influential in Jamaica's second place at the recent Fast 5 competition.
Both teams advanced to today's finals after wins a week ago. UTech got by a very strong G.C. Foster College team 54-48 while Mico got the better of the University of the West Indies 40-33.
After failing to advance to the Senior final, G.C. Foster are on course to win two titles as they will play Mico 'B' in the Intermediate 'A' final and Moneague College in the Intermediate 'B' final.
