Allen fifty lifts Ja Scorpions past Windwards

Another outstanding half-century from batsman Fabian Allen has given Jamaica Scorpions the upper hand against Windward Islands Volcanoes at the close of play on the second day of their Cricket West Indies/Digicel Four-day Championship clash at Sabina Park.

Jamaica, who started the day on 43 without loss, closed the day on 261 for Leighton their first innings with the in-form 22-year-old Allen ending unbeaten on 57.

Captain Nikita Miller 29 is the other not out batsman with the pair sharing in a ninth wicket stand of 52 runs this far. 

Earlier openers John Campbell and Trevon Griffith made 71 and 37, respectively, while Brandon Ling collated 35.

Off-spinner Shane Shillingford with five for 72 off 33 overs is currently the Volcanoes top bowler.

The Windwards, on day one, scored 200 runs in their first innings.

Jamaica, in passing the 250 runs landmark, has so far garned two batting bonus points, which are offered firstly to a team that reaches 200 runs, and, for every 50 runs they score thereafter in the first 110 overs of their first innings.

First innings points are no longer offered in the new-look championship.
