CRICKET: Miller, Allen guide Scorpions to victory over Windwards
Spinner Nikita Miller produced yet another sterling bowling effort to lead the Jamaica Scorpions to an emphatic 10 wickets win over the Windward Islands Volcanoes at Sabina Park on Sunday.
Contesting his second match of the season due to injury, Miller picked up his fourth straight five wicket haul after claiming eight for 54, as the Windwards, after resuming on 169 for six, were bowled out for 186 in their second innings.
Having scored 200 in their first innings, this provided the Scorpions, who made 352 in their first innings, a victory target of 35, which the Robert Samuels-coached duly got half-an-hour before lunch on the final day.
Trevon Griffith, 24, and John Campbell, 10, took the Scorpions home.
Miller, who made 52 in the first innings, and shared in a record ninth wicket partnership with batsman Fabian Allen, who ended unbeaten on 105, took five for 60 in the first innings.
The result represents Jamaica’s second win in as many matches after going win-less in their first three of the season.
The Windwards with the defeat remained at the foot of the six-team standings.
Jamaica will next play Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the first set of return-leg matches at Sabina Park, starting on Thursday.
The teams drew when they met in the first round of the Brian Lara Cricket Ground in Trinidad.
