The Gleaner, where the RSPL unfolds! ... major deal signed with top football league
The Gleaner Company (Media) Limited (GCML) is now the official print partners of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL), following the signing of multi-year deal with the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA).
The signing of the deal, which took place at the media giant's North Street offices earlier this week, will see the newspaper company bringing unprecedented focus to the RSPL, through multi-platform coverage, as well as promotional and developmental programmes involving league stakeholders.
PLCA General Manger Pat Garel was elated with the deal.
"Personally, I am delighted that we are at this juncture to start what I think will be a mutually beneficial relationship," said Garel. "My knowledge of The Gleaner is that it was around long before I was born, and the history and archives should have just about everything do with the Premier League and every league that have been played in Jamaica.
"The history of what has happened with our football is very important for the young people coming up to know from where we are coming from, the major players, and people who are now coaching at different levels," Garel said.
Clyde Jureidini, secretary of the PLCA, said the partnership forms part of the PLCA's vision to secure world-class exposure for the competition.
"Our growth potential is great because I think that the Jamaica football landscape is one that is poised for take off in the new year," said Jureidini. "We are looking for new partners, we are looking for international brands, and we are looking to make a sudden and long-standing impact, and we think The Gleaner and The Star are the two pillars on which we can build that possibility."
This was a viewpoint that was shared by Sports Editor AndrÈ Lowe.
"We have always supported and presented the Red Stripe Premier League to our readership over the years, and we are looking forward to adding our unmatched platforms to the efforts to help this competition meet its potential and ambitions," said Lowe.
"The Red Stripe Premier League - its players, teams, coaches and personalities - is set to benefit like never before from unprecedented exposure through a number of exciting features and projects that go beyond our pages," Lowe said. "With The Gleaner, The Star as well as our vibrant online and social-media machinery, we know that The Gleaner Company (Media) Limited is best equipped to bring dynamic support to this competition."
Terry-Anne Wilson, assistant manager of Business Development and Marketing, said the company is very happy to be partnering with the PLCA.
"The Gleaner is very pleased to have signed this contract the Premier League Clubs Association for our sponsorship of the Red Stripe Premier League," said Wilson. "The Gleaner, having just recently redesigned its publication, was just not cosmetic, it has to do with the content of the product, and so one of the main facets of this redesign is our coverage of sports, and so we see this association as a mutually beneficial one."
